As a native of Philadelphia, Virginia Gaskins received her Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Holy Family University of Pennsylvania,
in 2012. She completed her clinical internship at Arcadia University where she was able to fine tune her counseling skills while working with university students and staff members in need of therapy services. Virginia worked in the field of Higher Education and Student Services for several years until she shifted her focus to work within community mental health.
Virginia moved on to broaden her skill-set by counseling a diverse population, including counseling foster and adopted children using play therapy, providing therapy and crisis intervention to at-risk youth and young adults, using a youth driven therapeutic approach, counseling and educating pregnant and first time mothers with mental health diagnosis, counseling patients receiving drug and alcohol treatment and specializing in providing counseling to those struggling with weight management and obesity.
Virginia relocated to Washington State where she became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Chemical Dependency Professional Trainee (CDPT), Child Mental Health Specialist (CMHS) and in 2018, Virginia started her own private practice, Focus Counseling. As an African American Therapist, Virginia’s desire is to close the gap of Inequality of care, lack of cultural competency, distrust, stigma and bias for people of color and create a safe environment where all people receive culturally sensitive care. Virginia is a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated and On her off time, you can find her living out her passions of interior decorating, crafting, staying physically active, writing and traveling.
